Being Original

For me, becoming an original person is not that difficult, although it’s still more difficult than just to become what others expect us to be.
For me it is easier to be myself and to try my best to achieve what I want to achieve, to think beyond what others normally do, to listen to music besides the top 40 on the radio/internet, to present myself different than the others. It is all much easier to do than doing what other people tell me to.
BUT it is so much difficult to THRIVE by being original. It takes a lot of courage, conviction, and also capital to become self sufficient by being original. There are more people who thinks that he/she should become self sufficient first before he/she could become him/herself. But once self sufficiency is attained, there is far greater tendency to never reach that point of originality because we never really feel sufficient enough when we don’t become original persons. Therefore we are trapping ourselves to the same cycle over and over again, trying to fill the emptiness with the things that never fix it.
Every human needs self actualization. We love doing our favorite activities because we can define who we are by doing those things.
We don’t love breathing, we breathe because we don’t wanna die. We don’t love eating only bread or rice, we do so because we don’t want to feel the hunger. We don’t normally love to wake up early, but we have to do it because we don’t want the bad consequences of coming late for school or work.
We love to draw, we love to dress up, we love to enjoy good food, we love hanging out with our friends, we love to watch good movies because by doing all that we can define who we are inside.
But the happiest people are the ones who can fulfill themselves by creating something with their own minds and imagination and make a living out of it. They might not be the wealthiest persons, but whatever amount they make, they feel content because there isn’t any big hole within themselves to fill with insignificant things.
And here lies the paradox. To be happy, one must suffer going through all the process.
